When people start to talk about Dubai, they talk about the great modern building, shopping malls and opulence. They do not talk about the unsung heroes of Dubai. Workers from India, Pakistan and other Asian countries. They are abused on a daily basis. They work for low wages, without insurance and often go unpaid for months.
They cannot own property and have to re-new their working papers every few months. I had an opportunity to experience some of their hardship. I took a trip to Kish Island (Iranian Territory) close to UAE to renew their papers. The process is pure abuse from the moment they leave UAE, They are put in special section, spend hundred of Dollars to shady companies to transport them to the Island. They are put through interrogation process by Iranian officials, Taken to sleazy Motels that charge them ridiculous prices and group them 4 or more a room and continue to take advantage of them until they get their paperwork updated. They return to UAE and start the whole process all over again.
